Our Services

Draig Ecology provides a wide range of services; from protected species surveys, habitat surveys, mitigation licences, habitat creation and ecological clerks of works; always delivering a top quality service that you can trust.

We've provided a short narrative of a number of services offered; however, this list is not exhaustive therefore if you have any other service which you require, please contact us to set up a consultation to discuss your project's needs.

Protected Species Surveys

Protected species surveys are often required to support planning applications.

Many animals and some plant species are legally protected and their presence on development projects can result in significant delays and increased costs.

Draig Ecology can advise you on the implications for your project if protected species are found to be present.

We offer the following protected species surveys:

  • European Protected Species surveys and licence applications – bats, dormice, great crested newts and otters.
  • Other protected and UK Biodiversity Action Plan species surveys – badger, water vole and reptiles.

Preliminary Ecological Appraisal

The survey identifies habitats and features on the site that may constrain development and evaluates the potential of these habitats to support protected species. If the site is assessed as having low wildlife interest, then no further survey may be needed. If necessary, clients are advised to undertake more detailed specialist studies.

A preliminary ecological appraisal can be conducted at any time of the year. For smaller schemes such as a dwelling or small group of buildings needing a survey for a planning application, this may only relate to a specific species group such as bats.

We recommend that a preliminary ecological appraisal is conducted as early as possible in your project plans.

Ecological Site Supervision

Draig Ecology can provide on-site ecological supervision, providing advice throughout the construction stages of development.

We can advise you how to minimise ecological impacts by designing and supervising ecological mitigation and compensation works.

Projects would include the supervision of vegetation clearance, hedgerow translocation, building demolition and refurbishment.
